EMERALD BAY – Caltrans is alerting motorists that construction has started on repair work for a section of State Highway 89 in the Emerald Bay area of Lake Tahoe.

The work involves replacing a retaining wall and the extension of an existing barrier slab and rail. Beginning today and Thursday, contractor Stewart Engineering, Inc., will be establishing a staging area at the Eagle Falls parking area alongside southbound Highway 89. Visitors to the area should note that most, if not all, of the parking spots will be blocked by equipment.

Work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday under reversing one-way traffic control. Motorists should expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

The project should be completed by mid-November of this year.
